new design + thrift finds

Morning Loves!

Yesterday afternoon I installed the new blog design (bought here). I love it so much! It's not what I would normally pick, but it is nice to branch out and try something new. What do you think?

Below are a few of the goodies I snatched up at the thrift store last week. I'm saving my favorite find for another post, so stay tuned!

Gigantic milk glass bowl. Perfect for salads this Summer.

I was so excited to find this antique Transferware tea cup for two dollars!
My favorite tattoo that is on my left arm is modeled after this other
Transferware design so I have a bit of a soft spot for it.

I love this vintage Pyrex casserole. No lid, but complete pieces are so hard to find anyway. I have to be honest, when I first saw this on the shelf I didn't think it was Pyrex as I have never seen this design before. Not sure if that means it is a rare design or if I am not as learned in Pyrex as I thought.

This antique serving dish was one of the first things I spotted. I love the design and colors!

I couldn't believe I found this pink beauty all lonely at a thrift store!
I always have a hard time figuring out if these chickens are vintage or not...I have another small blue one that is the prettiest color. This one is a soft pink and is huge! Love, love, love it.

Two vintage ties for Ronald. I love that one is from Penney's!

Pretty vintage scarves for my hair. I find that the scarf section at thrift stores is so overlooked. I find a Vera scarf almost every time I go for no more than a dollar! This time I found this Burmel beauty for two bucks. It's worth about twenty dollars which covers half of my bill for this trip!

I really need to go thrifting more. I absolutely love it, it isn't expensive, and it makes me much happier and more satisfied overall.

Anyway, I hope you have a lovely day. I'm in horrible pain today, so we'll see how it goes...

xx, C

*A little housekeeping note: I no longer show my google reader follow button since google reader is going away in July. What that means for you is that all the blogs you follow on google reader will be lost to you unless you bookmark the blogs separately, or use another following program like bloglovin'. I use bloglovin' and it transfers all the blogs you follow from google reader in just a few clicks! Please look into a new blog reader program as I don't want to lose you and worse yet, have you lose all the blogs you follow! If you have more questions, feel free to leave a comment or email me. ;)

some good things

these vintage photographs I found in an old scrapbook I bought for $10! These are a few of my absolute favorites.

How perfect to find this old picture of us in a stack of books this morning. Just in time for Valentine's!

It took me ages to find carnations, but I did and they are dreamy.

This little kitty doll makes me smile every time I look at it.

Some of my favorite art pieces cut out of my art history textbook back in 2001!

cute little goodies and a rabbit.

This book I found at a thrift store when I was sixteen.

This antique handmade doll I found at a thrift store yesterday for seven dollars. Her name is Virginia, as she totally reminds me of Virginia Woolf!

The amaryllis bulb I planted in January has turned into six huge blooms.

Our mantle with melty candles, and the valentine banner I made last week.

more amaryllis.
valentine bunting (from a kids craft kit at Target).

kissy face.

a little Eiffel in my morning dishwashing view.

Pretty heart pendant.

Lots of flowering plants.

Record playing kind of morning.

One of my favorite mugs.

Bird drawing waiting to be painted.

Record I listened to with breakfast.
I have been gone from blogland for a while! This is seriously the longest I have gone without blogging in probably four or five years! I've missed this. I've missed you.

I hope your day is new and flowery. Cozy and warm. Musical and dreamy.

Find of the week-antique planter

This week I went to an antique store with my sister. I fell in love with this blue lady planter when we first walked in, but it was really high up on a shelf and this antique store is very cluttered so I was worried I would break something, and also that this little planter would be way out of my price range, so I walked through the rest of the store without it. I found an old print of a horse race for $12 and then decided I would brave it and look at the price of the planter as I couldn't get it out of my head. Only problem was I couldn't find it anymore! This antique store is an old house with several rooms so I scoured everything but still no luck. I paid for the print and was ready to leave when I decided to look in the first room one more time...and there it was on the high shelf. I pulled it down and looked at the price and was shocked to see that it was only $15! So I purchased it in a hurry.

I am so happy I found this little lady! She is gorgeous and adds a pinch of color to our white shelf.

We are putting our Ikea furniture together and have the living room all set up, so stay tuned for some pictures this week of the changes!

May Fourth

I finally found a perpetual clock at an antique store! It was only ten dollars and came in its original box!  It needs some shining up as there is some sticky stuff on the front, but I couldn't help but start using it right away out of excitement.

I also was the "kid" in Yosemite filling one of those mini velvet bags with rocks and "gems" for $7.95. Yes it was silly, but I love how they look on my desk, especially on this vintage plate with a photo of Queen Elizabeth II, found at a thrift store for $2.50.

Ever since I wrote the "things I'm afraid to tell you" post I have been tremendously anxious and a bit melancholy. Its hard to share that much stuff. I've noticed that I have become more and more scared to be honest on here as well as in real life. I'm keeping myself cocooned and hidden mainly out of fear. I wish I could shake this instantly, but it doesn't work that way. Damn.

Love a melancholy, C

vintage fun

I love all the vintage goodies around the house. Sometimes I don't notice how special these things are and how much character they have. I especially love the pigs sad face, its so cute!

After a night of terrible nightmares (I mean terrible), I am going to have a cleaning day. The house needs a very good scrubbing from top to bottom. I bought a new feather duster and am so excited to use it (yes cleaning products can be exciting). I'm also going to run to my favorite Trader Joe's, and maybe do some baking and painting this afternoon.

Ronald has been taking a class in San Francisco all week. Usually it takes about thirty minutes to get to the city, but this week it has taken him two hours there and two hours to get home because of traffic. Its really no fun and I miss him so much. He is an instructor so has classes every week, but usually not five days a week and the rest of the time he works from home, so its weird not seeing him until the evening.

Love-love, C
